I wanted to share a “little project” (you’ll see the irony in a moment) I’ve been working on for the past 3 weeks.
Ever wondered what it would take to turn a room in your house into a true “Home Theater” with an HDTV Projector? There’s tons of information online about it. There are also a lot of details to go into when you start down this path… wiring for surround sound (luckily this was already done), wiring to a projector from your source inputs (tricky), throw ratios, ambient lighting vs. projector brightness (lumens), viewing distances, etc…
Going through all these details was both challenging and overwhelming. I don’t know how many times I’ve pulled out a tape measure and a level in the last few weeks!
In the meantime, I could tell my wife was getting uneasy when I was gushing with such excitement about this idea. She wasn’t sure about this weird path I was going down because it seemed pretty unconventional. (hey, at least I wasn’t inflating a giant mylar balloon in the backyard, right?)
Well… I’ll cut to the chase.
Here’s our “new” loft arrangement.
(notice no dangling cables or other ugliness?)
With the help of my new BFF (best friend forever) Kirby – from Tribal Screens in Austin, TX – we figured out it would be better to project against the outside wall since the windows surround the wall we will project on. This would help the projector do its work without fighting with natural lighting.
Here’s what we ended up with:
The Screen…

NCIS LA on CBS2 HD…
…and here is “The Rack”…
Lemme know what you think!
