…a quote from Jim Collins, author of the book “Good To Great” (credit where credit is due)… and it’s something I try to live by.
If you are building an online empire, be interested in it.
If you are interested the time will fly. If it’s tedious, you won’t be successful.
If you want to have an interesting dinner conversation, be interested.
If you want to have interesting things to write, be interested in what you’re writing about.
If you want to meet interesting people, be interested in the people you meet — their lives, their history, their story.
It is a common misconception that you must be an interesting person to get people to like you. Capturing people’s attention, obtaining/sharing knowledge and inspiring tohers isn’t about being interesting.
It’s great to be able to do all that, but you have to be more than just “interesting”.
Museums are interesting. Books can be interesting… As a person, it should be an insult to be labeled “interesting”. That means you’re being passed off as a novelty.
You have to be real, and you have to be interested. Only then will people see, understand, and react to the REAL YOU.
After that, getting your message across is gravy because people will have taken an interest in you and your message.
That’s where social media “get’s it”.
Facebook is a great tool, often misused in the name of being “interesting”.
How many times have you paused at the “What’s On Your Mind?” box, thinking of something interesting to say, rather than reading what is going on in your friend’s lives instead?
Be interested.
