As you may know, Media Temple (my hosting company) had a highly-publicized outage a few weeks ago.
All my sites were down for almost 36 hours.
It exemplified a big problem I’ve been having – too many sites and too little hosting.
So I’ve started to migrate some of my sites from Media Temple back to WestHost - when I have time.
And that’s been the biggest issue. I’ve put all my site-building efforts on hold, I’m not taking any new consulting clients, and I’m still BOOKED SOLID.
Here’s what’s on deck right now BESIDES the site migrations:- First major revision of 5 Minute Minisites in a year (<– this one’s killer!)
- Monthly update for Niche Dominator customers for March (February was late for the first time in… EVER.)
- 2 Consulting clients taking up a lot of my time (they’re on the verge of being fired)
- Work
- Boy Scouts (camping trip this weekend)
- …and taking time out to spend with my family.
It’s overwhelming.
But I’m also taking the time to do it right. I’m not just slapping one site over to another hosting company. I’m evaluating the income potential of each migration to make sure I’m balanced across both hosting companies – in case something catastrophic happens again.
Additionally I’m trying to clean stuff up and “declutter” – getting rid of old junk domains I’m not using, cleaning up old files, fixing permissions, etc.
Across 93 domains, that’s a lot of work.
I can’t wait to be done, but the task is still looming over me like an 800lb wrecking ball.
