Why I Do What I Do

by Cam on March 7, 2008

Connor at Age 2Quite a few people have asked how I got started online… my motivation, what kicked it into high gear, etc.

It’s really pretty simple, actually.

My family… more specifically, my son Connor.

Connor was diagnosed with Autism just after he turned 2. I told myself I wouldn’t get all sappy and emotional here, but let me tell you… that was a huge shock. As a parent you want to be assured that your children are healthy and well adjusted. When Connor was diagnosed, Julie and I went through quite an emotional rollercoaster – all the classic stages.

No… it’s not true. (denial)
Why our son? Did we do something wrong?! (anger & blame)
Okay, let’s figure out how to help him! (acceptance)

I know there are more stages of emotional change… I’m paraphrasing.

It was during that last stage – when we were figuring out the different therapies Connor needed and how we were going to pay for them that I decided to “go online” and figure out a way to make a little extra money.

I did figure it out too… Whether it was through eBay (where I started), or with Consulting Solution (my first infoproduct) or whatever was needed… I unlocked the key to earning a good second income online, and not spending a whole lot of time doing it.

That was back in 2002. The Boys in Williamsburg

I’m proud to say that Connor has “mainstreamed” into the elementary education, he has a lot of great friends, and I am continually amazed at his insightfulness, curiosity, wisdom and his willingness to do whatever it takes to help out around the house and with his brothers.

Additionally, the income I earn online continues to go to helping Connor & out family combat Autism.
